“The ATP Masters remain in Italy until 2030”, announces ATP boss Andrea Gaudenzi

The Masters tournament will continue to be played on Italian soil for the next five years. But of course in Turin…

The ATP Masters, which brings together the season’s eight best players every year in mid-November, will continue to be played in Italy until 2030, ATP boss Andrea Gaudenzi announced on Sunday after the final of the 2024 edition. “I’m pleased to announce that the ATP Masters will remain in Italy for another five years, until 2030.”he said just before handing over the winner’s trophy to his compatriot. Jannik Sinner, winner over American Taylor Fritz 6-4, 6-4. The contract between the Italian Tennis Federation and the ATP originally expired in 2025. The “masters tournament has been held in Turin’s Inalpi Arena since 2021.

There were rumors that the ATP intended to relocate its major event to the Arabian Peninsula, where Saudi Arabia, very active in professional sport, already hosts the women’s counterpart, the WTA Masters.

Relocation in 2026?

Prior to Turin, the event, created in 1970 and long based in New York, was staged in London from 2009 to 2020, after four editions in Shanghai (2004-08). However, the tournament could still change setting in 2026 and move to Milan, Italy’s economic capital, where a new venue, larger than the Inalpi Arena, is being built for the 2026 Winter Olympics. “No decision has been made one way or the other should the ATP decide to extend its contract with us.”said Italian Tennis Federation President Angelo Binaghi at a press conference ahead of the ATP announcement.

Taking full advantage of the Sinner effect, the tournament is doing well, according to the Italian tennis boss: 210,275 tickets have been sold for 2024, compared with 185,000 in 2023, and the tournament’s economic spin-offs have increased fivefold since 2021 to reach 503.4 million euros.
