The Carcassonne court found that the attack on two men from Guadeloupe and Mayotte was not racially motivated.
The attackers of two men from Guadeloupe and Mayotte Guadeloupe and Mayotte during a village festival in 2022 in the Aude department were sentenced on Wednesday to CarcassonneHowever, the court did not find the attack to be racially motivated, as claimed by an association. The criminal court handed down an 18-month suspended sentence to one of the ringleaders. Two other assailants, including a deputy mayor of the commune of Verzeille, received one-year suspended sentences, while a fourth defendant was acquitted.
The four men were tried on September 4 for acts of violence committed on July 24, 2022 during the village’s annual fête ball. That evening, the victims were suspected of having pricked other revelers, against a backdrop of multiple complaints, in France, for pricks in nightclubs, bars and festivals. The two men were then chased by several people and beaten up.
“A denial of justice”
“It’s a denial of justice. A manhunt was unleashed, it was a hunt for blacks, even though they had arrived after the suspicions of stings. The two victims were clearly assaulted because of their skin color.”Samuel Thomas, president of the Fédération nationale des Maisons des potes, an anti-discrimination association, told AFP. One of the victims and the Maison des potes have lodged an appeal.
