U.S. President Joe Biden said Sunday fromAmazon that “no one can turn back the clock” on the “clean energy revolution in the United States, in a message addressed to his successor Donald Trump. “I leave office in January. I will leave my successor and my country a solid foundation to build on, should they choose to do so.”said Joe Biden in a statement in Manaus, Brazil, in the heart of the rainforest.
“Some may try to deny or delay the clean energy revolution that is underway in America. But no one, no one can turn back the clock on this.”he added. On Sunday, the Democrat became the first sitting US president to visit the Amazon, a historic and symbolic visit just a few months before Donald Trump’s return to the White House. During his campaign, the Republican promised to “drill at all costs” and cast doubt on the reality of climate change.
He also warned that he planned to withdraw the United States from the Paris Climate Agreement. He had already done so during his first term, but Joe Biden reversed that decision and made the fight against climate change a major cause of his presidency. “The fight to protect our planet is literally a fight for humanity for generations to come.”insisted the outgoing president. “Perhaps the single existential threat to all our nations and all humanity.”
