AS Monaco is one of the winners of the seventh day of Betclic Elite. So did Paris Basketball. Not Asvel, beaten by leaders Cholet on Sunday.
Cholet beat Asvel 101-87 on Sunday to regain control of Betclic Elite at the end of Matchday 7, which ended with Paris Basket’s win over Nancy.
Two days after Euroleague home defeat by Bayern Munich (84-71)Lyon-Villeurbanne fell to their second defeat of the season. The Choletais, meanwhile, are off to a flying start, with five wins in six games, and are still one game behind their opponents in the standings.
Malédon on fire… in vain
Fabrice Lefrançois’ men already led by nine points at the break, and continued to go it alone in the second half, with no less than five players scoring 10 points or more, including Bastien Vautier (19 pts) and Andre Roberson (19 pts, 4 assists, 5 rebounds). Théo Maledon’s 24 points for Asvel were not enough for Cholet, who surpassed the 100-point mark for the second time this season after a home win over Gravelines-Dunkerque (106-74).
BCM were beaten at home by Monaco (83-74) at the same time on Sunday. Like Asvel, Monaco lost in the Euroleague on Friday, at Kaunas (63-62)have followed up their league success with a fourth in a row. Matthew Strazel and Élie Okobo finished top scorers (14 pts) for the players from the Principality, while Mouhammadou Jaiteh was voted MVP of the match thanks to his double-double (10 points, 10 rebounds). Meanwhile, American star Mike James scored 13 points in his first league game of the season.
Paris in machine mode
Finally, after two wins in Berlin (92-83) and against Vitoria (67-65) in the European Cup, Paris Basketball rounded off their three-game week in fine style with another home win over Nancy (115-97), currently bottom of the table (14th). While the victory over Vitoria on Friday was not an offensive demonstration, the Parisians put on a fine show for their fans at the Adidas Arena.
Tiago Splitter’s men, already leading by 17 points at the end of the first two quarters (64-47), further extended their lead after the break. Nadir Hifi finished top scorer with 22 points, while Collin Malcolm scored 19, adding 4 rebounds for 19 points. The win, just over a week after a setback at Cholet, sees the Parisians climb to 3rd place, with a record identical to that of Asvel and Saint-Quentin (5 wins, 2 losses).
