Mazan rape trial: examining magistrate grilled by defense lawyers

HEARING REPORT – The examining magistrate in charge of the investigation was questioned this Friday by the Vaucluse criminal court, at the request of a defendant.

Judge Gwenola Journot, 41, who summarized 31 volumes of the investigation in a 370-page committal order, was summoned to appear before the Vaucluse criminal court by a defendant, to be questioned about the way in which the investigations into the Mazan rapes were conducted.

This morning, nearly thirty criminal lawyers involved in this sprawling case flocked to the hearing. They all addressed the judge with a certain respect and a touch of deference, aware that this situation – lawyers questioning a judge – is unusual.
