On Monday night, Damian Lillard gave Milwaukee a 101-100 win over Houston, while Philadelphia was crushed by the Miami Heat (106-89).
While Houston had the upper hand in the fourth quarter, a strong finish and a final basket from Damian Lillard enabled Milwaukee to turn the game around (101-100) and breathe easy with a fifth win (nine losses).
After a tenth assist on a Green three-pointer (at 1:17), Lillard (18 points) found himself with the ball in hand and a point down with just seconds remaining. A veteran of decisive long-range shots in Dame time, Lillard surprised with a drive and a successful lay-up in the heart of the Rockets’ defense, to give the Bucks a one-point lead with three seconds remaining.
A loose ball by Alperen Sengun (18 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists) left alone under the basket by Giannis Antetokounmpo (20 points, 14 rebounds) ended the game and the Rockets’ five-game winning streak.
Philadelphia doesn’t advance
The Philadelphia 76ers let a 19-point lead melt away before being corrected by the Miami Heat (106-89), confirming a completely unsuccessful start to the season with two wins in 13 games.
After being without Paul George and Joel Embiid for so long, the 76ers have now been without point guard Tyrese Maxey for six games. George, who arrived this summer, was clumsy (18 points and 1 on 7 from distance) and Embiid very discreet (11 points, 8 rebounds) against Jimmy Butler (30 points, 10 rebounds), back after a four-game absence.
