“You go to walk your dog, you go to do some shopping and you die. What kind of society is this? It’s unbelievable.”the Figaro Bernard Gérard, mayor (LR) of Marcq-en-Barœul. Daniel Becquet, a 58-year-old resident of this commune in the north of France, was stabbed to death late Sunday afternoon, November 10.
It was a barbaric crime that stunned the inhabitants of this town, which is reputed to be peaceful. “Marcq is a posh suburb, nothing ever happens here normally”, testifies a young woman. “It’s a quiet area where you don’t feel like anything could happen. But it’s an image of France, you’re not safe anywhere.”says a police officer in the field.
