Le FIGARO. – Is the new government aware of the scale of the challenge posed by an aging population? ?

Sylvain RABUEL. – In his general policy speech, Prime Minister, Michel Barniersaid he would tell the French the truth. He talked about the public debt, but ignored the demographic debt, which is building up every day, slowly but inexorably. In ten years’ time, France will have more elderly people than young people: 18 million over 65 (12 million today) and 12 million under 25. Of these, 2.5 million will be dependent, 800,000 more than today.

For French society, which has always been predominantly composed of young people, this will be a social, economic and anthropological upheaval…
