The world’s 5th-ranked player was beaten by Sweden’s Truls Moregard, silver medallist at the Paris Olympic Games.
Félix Lebrun has reached the quarter-finals of the WTT Champions tournament in Frankfurt, eliminated on Friday by Sweden’s Truls Moregard in four sets (11-7, 11-6, 5-11, 13-11). The world’s 5th-ranked player, who had already won a title in Montpellier on October 27, was beaten by the Paris Games silver medallist, who entered the match better than he did.
After losing the first two sets, the French ping star, double bronze medallist at Paris-2024, rebelled in the third and had his chance in the fourth, breaking 4-1 and then 6-3. But Moregard, ranked 11th in the world, rallied at 7-7 before winning his first two match points (10-8), only to be denied by the younger of the Lebrun brothers.
Félix even had a chance to come back to within two sets (11-10), but lost on the third match point. In the semi-finals, Moregard will face compatriot Anton Kallberg (world no. 27), who defeated China’s Wang Chuqin (world no. 1) in Frankfurt. The other semi-final will pit China’s Lin Shidong (world No.2) against Lin Yun-ju (world No.14). The WTT Champions tournaments are the second level of the international circuit.
