Emmanuel Macron will be on hand to support the French national team against Israel on Thursday, as the Nations League match promises to be a high-risk affair due to the tense atmosphere following the violence in Amsterdam this week.
Emmanuel Macron will be in the stands at the tense match between France and Israel at the Stade de France on Thursday, November 14, the Le Figaro, confirming a report by RTL. The head of state wishes to “show his full support for the French team, as he does at every match”.explained the President’s entourage.
The latter also wishes to, “send a message of fraternity and solidarity after the intolerable anti-Semitic acts that followed the match in Amsterdam this week”.. As a reminder fans of Israeli soccer club Maccabi Tel-Aviv were violently attacked by a group of by groups of individuals in the streets of the Dutch capital on Thursday night. Five supporters were briefly hospitalized and around 60 people were arrested.
Israelis urged not to attend match
The France-Israel match – part of the Nations League – will therefore be held in a climate of “violence”. “high-risk” atmosphereParis police prefect Laurent Nuñez warned BFMTV on Sunday. A total of 4,000 police and gendarmes will be mobilized on Thursday to prevent any excesses.
The Israeli authorities also urged fans to avoid attending the match on Sunday. “The National Security Council recommends that Israelis abroad act with precaution (…) especially during the coming week, to completely avoid traveling to sports meetings and cultural events involving Israelis, especially to the upcoming match of the Israeli team in Paris.”said the organization, which reports to the Prime Minister’s Office, in a statement.
For the time being, a small number of tickets have been sold, “between 15,000 and 20,000” out of the 80,000 available seats at the Stade de France.
