A firefighters’ strike has led to the cancellation of numerous flights at Nantes airport. This made it difficult for Brest fans to attend their team’s match at Sparta Prague on Wednesday.
The Letna stadium will probably not be full of Brest supporters this Wednesday evening (9pm), where Brest take on Sparta Prague on Matchday 4 of the Champions League. As reported by France Bleu , “almost all flights” at Nantes Atlantique airport were cancelled on Wednesday following a strike by the airport’s firefighters.
According to the newspaper L’Équipe newspaper quoting Stade Brestois, some sixty supporters had planned to fly to Prague. Some abandoned their trip to the Czech Republic. Others adapted in a hurry. “Departure by car at 8pm when the cancellation was announced… arrival in Prague scheduled for 12pm. ! What a journey !”wrote one Finistère fan on X on Wednesday morning.
Brest and Prague are just over 1,600 kilometers apart. The team coached by Eric Roy is unbeaten after three Champions League matches and has seven points. Should they win in Prague, they would take a major step towards securing a place in the C1 play-offs this winter. And could even dream of a top-8 finish, synonymous with direct access to the Champions League Round of 16.
