Cleveland’s players are off to a hot start, with 14 wins in as many games. They could equal the second mark in history on Sunday.
The Cavs unroll. Led by Vincent Collet’s former assistant in the French national team, Kenny Atkinson, the Cleveland players have started the season with 14 wins and no losses. The latest success? 144-126 against Chicago last night, with 37 points from Donovan Mitchell. 14 wins in a row or more to start the season has already happened five times: Boston (1957) and Dallas (2002) did as well, the Washington Capitals (1948) and Houston did even better with 15 wins in a row. A mark the Cavaliers will be able to match on Sunday against Charlotte.
As for the record, Kenny Atkinson’s men still have some work to do. The record belongs to Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson’s Warriors, who kicked off their 2015-16 campaign with… 24 consecutive wins! A season in which they broke the record for most wins (73). However, the title eluded them. They were beaten in the final by LeBron James’ Cavaliers, after leading 3-1. Of the 15 teams that started the season with a series of 10 or more wins, only three went on to win the title: Boston (1964-65, 11 wins to start the season), Chicago (1996-97, 12 wins) and Houston (1993-94, 15 wins).
