Galatasaray’s Argentinian striker Mauro Icardi, who went off injured on Thursday during the Turkish club’s 3-2 victory over Tottenham in the Europa League, has suffered a cruciate ligament rupture, his club announced on Friday.

“A rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament and damage to the meniscus have been detected in his right knee.”said Galatasaray in a statement, adding that their star striker would undergo surgery shortly.

The Stamboulian club did not specify how long the player would be unavailable, but according to the Turkish sports press, the former Paris SG and Inter Milan player’s season is in jeopardy.
