Côte d’Ivoire aims to become the new Eldorado of the African audiovisual industry

DECRYPTAGE – On November 5, the Ivorian government opens the Salon international du contenu audiovisuel (Sica) in Abidjan, aimed at structuring the local industry. Canal+, TV5 Monde and France Medias Monde will be present.

Last week, Cannes played host to Mipcom, the world’s leading audiovisual audiovisual. Next Tuesday sees the opening of what could eventually become its African equivalent. Organized on the initiative of the Ivorian Ministry of Communication, the Salon international du contenu audiovisuel d’Abidjan (Sica) is, today, more modest.

For three days on November 5, the event will welcome some 250 professionals, 50 investors and a hundred or so speakers from some twenty countries (Canada, USA, France, Turkey…). Nevertheless, this second edition of the event has high ambitions: Make Côte d’Ivoire a central platform for the promotion, development and distribution of African and international audiovisual content. tells Figaro Amadou Coulibaly, Minister of Communication and spokesman for the Ivorian government.

In Africa, the film and audiovisual sectors currently account for $5 billion in revenues and employ around 5 million people.
