The Saxon manufacturer celebrates in style its thirtieth anniversary and that of its benchmark watch, the Lange 1.
October 24 is a special day in the Glashütte calendar. Walter Lange courageously decided to relaunch the watchmaking company founded in Dresden in 1845 by his great-grandfather in the heart of Saxony, in the convalescent East Germany just after the fall of the Berlin Wall. On October 24, 1994, the first collection signed A. Lange & Söhne. Precise, sober, rigorous: the Lange 1 was to launch this new manufacture into orbit. “The Lange 1 is a timepiece that brings together everything that characterizes a precision mechanical watch: originality, timeless elegance and horological precision down to the smallest detail, emphasizes Wilhelm Schmid, CEO of A. Lange & Söhne. When it was introduced thirty years ago, it broke classical codes to define its own style.”
Three decades later, it hasn’t aged a bit, and still inspires haute horlogerie enthusiasts. Its regulator-type dial, separating seconds from hours and minutes, clearly displays the power reserve. Its large date windows, reminiscent of the clock overlooking the stage of Dresden’s Semperoper, designed by the brilliant Ferdinand-Adolph Lange, are its stylistic signature.

Simplicity, the most beautiful of complications
Born of a desire to think outside the box, this watch has since come to symbolize the very identity of our Manufacture, which aims to create timepieces of exceptional functionality and aesthetics.”says Anthony de Haas, Director of Product Development for the Saxon Glashütte brand.
Over the years, the Saxon manufacture has multiplied the creative evolutions within the Lange 1 line, with a moon phase, a GMT, and more. “Time Zone or even a tourbillon perpetual calendar, among other horological refinements. This time, it’s with a double duo of pure, classic timepieces, in limited editions, that it celebrates this anniversary: a version in platinum with a black onyx dial, and one in pink gold with a blue dial. These two models with 38.5 mm cases are joined by a twin version, Petite Lange 1, reduced to 36.8 mm. Simplicity is, after all, the finest of horological complications.
