Italian giant Mutti fights back against Chinese overproduction

We’re going to see an overproduction of Chinese production in 2024, worries Francesco Mutti. This situation is dangerous for a sector that counts in Europe. Chairman and CEO of Italian family firm Muttia specialist in high-end tomatoes, is sounding the alarm. According to the international organization representing the tomato processing industry, Chinese production is set to increase by 30.6% between 2023 and 2024, reaching 10.4 million tonnes out of the 45.6 million forecast worldwide. China would overtake California (9.9 million forecast this year vs. 11.5 million last year), the world’s leading producer in recent years, while Italy, in third place, is expected to record a 2.8% drop to 5.2 million tonnes.
