Alexandre Muller succumbed to the Croatian veteran in two sets on Monday.
Alexandre Muller, 68th in the worldwas eliminated by Croatia’s Marin Cilic (196th) 7-6 (7/2), 6-3 in the first round of the ATP 250 Belgrade tournament on Monday.
The Frenchman took his opponent’s serve from the outset, but was unable to open up a sufficient lead to avoid the tie-break, which was won by the 36-year-old former world number 3.
Cilic will face Czech Jiri Lehecka, seeded No.4, in the second round.
