INTERVIEW – Invited to the G20 Summit in Rio on November 18 and 19, the institution’s CEO advocates transforming the debt of the poorest countries into investment in education.
After seven years at the helm of Unesco, Audrey Azoulay is stepping down. Although the formal election is due to take place in a year’s time, the succession is already open. Two candidates have officially declared their candidacy: the Gabonese diplomat Noël Nelson Messone and the former director of Antiquities Egyptian AntiquitiesKhaled El-Enany.
The latter has received the official backing of France, in addition to that of the African Union and the League of Arab States. Other candidates are expected to declare their candidacy by the March deadline.
