Air France suspends Red Sea overflights until further notice

Two of the French airline’s flights turned back after an unidentified “luminous object” was reported over Sudan.

The airline Air France announced this Sunday, November 3, the suspension “until further notice”. overflying the Red Sea, an area stretching from East Africa to the Arabian Peninsula. This decision follows suspicions “of an observation by a crew of a luminous object at high altitude in the Sudan area”, justified the company on X.

According to the Air Plus News website, two Air France flights, including the “Paris-Madagascar” and the “Paris-Kenyaturned back to Paris later in the day. The flight “Paris CDG-La RĂ©union was postponed until the following day, while the “Maurice-Paris CDG” has changed its itinerary.

In response, Air France said: “As a precautionary measure, Air France has decided to suspend flights over the Red Sea area until further notice. As a result, the itinerary of some of its flights has been modified. Depending on their location, some aircraft, such as flight AF934 from Paris to Antananarivo, have been able to turn around and return to their departure airport. This decision follows a crew’s suspected sighting of a luminous object at high altitude in the Sudan area.”

But then, what could this “luminous object mentioned? An Internet user claims that“a missile” would have been “fired from Sudan onto an Air France plane”. Air France has denied this allegation: “We do not confirm the information ”a missile that had been sent to another Air France plane” and provide clarification on the reason for the U-turn of flight AF934 to Paris-Antananarivo”.
