Civil Defense announces 20 dead in Israeli strikes

The Palestinian Civil Defense in Gaza announced on Sunday morning that 20 people, including four women and three children, had died in Israeli air strikes in the Gaza Strip, which also wounded dozens.

The deadliest strike, which killed ten people, targeted a house in the al-Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza, Civil Defense spokesman Mahmoud Bassal told AFP. At least one woman died and ten people were injured in a separate strike on another house in the camp, he added.

Five other people were killed and 11 wounded by a “missile launched by an Israeli drone this (Sunday) morning in eastern Rafah”in the south of the Palestinian territory, said the spokesman. Four other people —“three women and a child— were killed in a night strike on a house in the west of the Nusseirat camp (center), he said. The war was triggered by a surprise attack launched on October 7, 2023 by the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas.

This attack resulted in the deaths of 1,206 people on the Israeli side, the majority of them civilians, according to an AFP count based on official figures and including hostages killed or held captive in the Gaza Strip. Some 43,800 Palestinians have been killed in Israel’s retaliatory military campaign on the Gaza Strip, the majority of them civilians, according to data from the Hamas government’s Ministry of Health for Gaza, deemed reliable by the UN.
