As a reminder, Linky is the name of the communicating electricity meter designed by Enedis, the EDF subsidiary responsible for managing the French electricity grid. It began to be rolled out in 2016, replacing older models, notably the famous blue electromechanical devices that first appeared in 1963.

Today, it is part of the lives of 37.3 million French households, representing an equipment rate of over 94%. Linky introduces modern communication tools, via PLC (Power Line Communication) and radio waves, to enable customers to measure their consumption and thus better control it.

It is a response to Directive 2009/72/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council, of 2009, aimed at liberalizing national electricity markets. As a result, EDF’s monopoly has come to an end…
