The 28-year-old quickly fell after taking off from the summit of the Aiguille verte, at an altitude of over 4,000 meters. An investigation has been opened.
The exact cause of his death remains a mystery. A paraglider from the Isère region of France died shortly after 11am on Friday. He had launched himself from the summit of l’Aiguille verteat an altitude of over 4,000 meters. The 28-year-old then fell in the Nant blanc sector, northwest of the aiguille, “obviously due to a problem during take-off”, Etienne Rolland, head of the Chamonix PGHM (peloton de gendarmerie de haute-montage, NDLR), told FranceBleu.
His companion, still at the top of the aiguille verte, immediately sounded the alarm. Unfortunately, by the time the gendarmes and medical team were airlifted in, the victim was already dead. An investigation has been opened to clarify the circumstances of the death.
According to the French Federation of Free Flight, which brings together aficionados of hang gliding, paragliding, kitesurfing, kitesurfing and boomerangs, twelve people died paragliding in 2022 and eleven in 2021. On November 7, a 50-year-old man from Saône-et-Loire died after falling 250 metres following a malfunction in his paraglider’s glider.
