The Ovale Ensemble candidates, close to the recently re-elected president of the FFR, won eleven of the thirteen regional leagues on Saturday.
Two weeks on the widespread re-election (67.7% of the vote against Didier Codorniou) of Florian Grill at the head of the French Rugby Federation, the Ovale Ensemble lists, which support the President’s camp, triumphed again on Saturday in the elections for the presidencies of the regional leagues.
Eleven of the thirteen regions are now in Florian Grill’s hands, with only the South (PACA) and Centre-Val de Loire regions not among his supporters. This confirms the FFR President’s hopes following his re-election on October 19: “We want the grand slam: the FFR, the Ligues and why not World Rugby.”
As a reminder, he had to manage his short first mandate (15 months since the early election following Bernard Laporte’s resignation) with the support of just three leagues out of thirteen.
Benazzi aims for World Rugby presidency on November 14
The President of the FFR welcomed the victory in a press release. “It’s a huge success in the leagues, and I have no doubt that we’ll be working hand in hand with the 13 leagues in mainland France, but also all those overseas! Our priority is to revive rugby from the grassroots up, right down to the smallest village in France. The alignment of the planets between the federal and national vision will help us to move forward more quickly, while we await the elections in the départements in a few weeks’ time, and dream of the election of Abdelatif Benazzi, whom we support at World Rugby, which would be a real feat”..
Florian Grill and his teams are now aiming for the presidency of World Rugby via the candidacy of Abdelatif Benazzi. The election will take place on November 14.
