David Hallyday celebrates his family at the Dôme de Paris

In the company of Sylvie Vartan and Laura Smet, the most American of French singers paid tribute to his father.

This room is really special for me and my family explained David Hallyday at the end of the first of two concerts he gave on Tuesday November 12 at the Dôme de Paris. Under its former name, the Palais des Sports, the venue has hosted major concerts by both his parents: the singer Sylvie Vartan made many of her “Parisian homecomings” there. And her rock star father Johnny Hallyday gave a number of legendary shows there between the mid-1960s and 1970s. Before the Zenith and Bercy opened in 1984, the Palais des Sports was the capital’s rock venue. And therefore Johnny’s second home.

A few months after the release of Requiem pour un fou, a fine album celebrating 25 years of collaboration, Sang pour Sang, the 50-year-old began a major tour in Épernay, then Lille, before settling in Paris. As fate would have it, the prodigal son is taking over from his mother. Sylvie…
