INTERVIEW – “Once again, people have been killed for no reason”, declared the Figaro Marie-Hélène Thoraval after the death of a 22-year-old rugby player, shot dead on Friday, and a member of the same club as Thomas killed in Crépol. A troubling coincidence for the town councillor, who was “shocked and devastated”.

The coincidence is disturbing. Almost a year to the day after Thomas’s murder in Crépol on the night of November 18-19, 2023, another rugby player, a member of the same Romans-Péage club (RCRP), was also brutally murdered Friday. Nicolas Dumas, 22, was waiting at the entrance to a nightclub in Saint-Péray, Ardèche, on November 1, when a hooded man burst in with a gun. Shot in the head, the young Romanais was rushed to hospital. He died early Saturday afternoon.
