The Portuguese club has been placed under a Special Revitalization Process by the Vila Nova Commercial Court.
After Royal Mouscron, Lille and Bordeaux, Boavista is now in the red. And more than that. The 14th-placed team in the Portuguese league announced in a press release on Tuesday that they were on the brink of collapse. What do these teams have in common? One man, Gérard Lopez, is at the helm of the Portuguese club.
“The Commercial Court of Vila Nova de Gaia has ordered a Special Revitalization Process (PER), which is now following legal procedures and will be developed over the coming months. The truth is that, without the adoption of rigorous and exceptional measures, the only alternative will be to file for insolvency, which would lead to the club’s inevitable liquidation, frustrating everyone’s legitimate expectations and credit recovery by creditors.”explains Boavista in a press release.
Special Revitalization Process
And to add: “The Portuguese club is aware that the “economic and financial deterioration” is “unquestionable”. It has been “aggravated by an almost daily burden of enforcement proceedings and consequent seizures by creditors”. Boavista’s Board of Directors realized that it had no choice but to present a Special Revitalization Process”..
As a reminder, the club has been in the throes of a financial and institutional crisis for several years now. In fact, Boavista was banned from recruiting at the last mercato.
