The 62-year-old actor takes on the role of famous spy Ethan Hunt for the eighth time, this time saving the world from a dangerous artificial intelligence machine.
Nothing is impossible for Tom Cruise aka Ethan Hunt. Even after eight installments. Mission Impossible 8, entitled The Final Reckoning and not Dead Reckoning: part two as originally announced, unveiled its first trailer this Monday, November 11. Scheduled for release in mid-2025, the film is a direct sequel to Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning , released in July 2023.
“Our lives are not defined by a single act. Our lives are the sum of our choices“, warns the trailer. “Everything you’ve been, everything you’ve done, has led us to this“, warns the narrator, as old images from previous films resurface. In this eighth film in the spy franchise, Ethan Hunt must succeed in bringing down for good the dangerous artificial intelligence program called “The Entity“introduced in the seventh installment, capable of destroying the world. On the program: even more action and stunts performed by the 62-year-old American actor. And of course, the famous musical theme composed by Lalo Schifrin is still present.
Mission Impossible 8 promises to take us up in the air, as shown by the many aviation shots, but also into the depths of the sea, where Ethan Hunt will still have to fight if he wants to stay alive. And it may even take in Paris, Tom Cruise having been spotted filming stunts at the Arc de Triomphe in April. Created by Christopher McQuarrie, who worked on the previous four installments, this eighth film features some of the actors seen in the previous installments, including Hayley Atwell, Simon Pegg, Angela Bassett and Ving Rhames.
” One last time “
If the hero of Top Gun revealed last year that he wanted to continue shooting Mission Impossible ” until his 80th birthday “like Harrison Ford for Indiana Jones, Mission Impossible The Final Reckoning seems to be the last opus. At least, that’s what the end of the trailer suggests. “Trust me. One last time“can be heard.
Launched in 1996 by Brian De Palma, the saga based on the TV series of the same name was a huge success, grossing over $3.4 billion worldwide. The sixth opus, Mission Impossible: Fallout, has established itself as the favorite installment, raking in over $790 million worldwide.
