With 34 points and a fine three-pointer, the Frenchman led the Spurs to victory over Sacramento. The Cavaliers, meanwhile, remain invincible.
After twelve games and another victory, snatched on Monday from the Chicago Bulls (119-113) thanks in particular to Donovan Mitchell’s 36 points, the Cleveland Cavaliers are still unbeaten this season in the NBA. Despite trailing by 9 points in the third quarter, the Cavs once again turned things around. On Saturday, they had already beaten Brooklyn after overcoming a 14-point deficit. A surprise at the start of the season, Cleveland is the only team still unbeaten.
Chicago, for their part, will be kicking themselves for not capitalizing when leading 85-76 with four minutes left in the third quarter. The Bulls went on a 9-0 run that allowed the Cavaliers to tie the game and go into the fourth period with a three-point lead. Zach LaVine’s 26 points and Coby White and Nikola Vucevic’s 20 weren’t enough for the Bulls to avoid a seventh defeat in eleven games. “We went a long way to get it,” congratulated Mitchell after the win. “Honestly, our bench saved us. The starting five was tired and now the opponents are looking to bring us down. But we persevered and kudos to our bench for that. It was a team effort,” he insisted.
Wembanyama again skilful from distance
Elsewhere, Victor Wembanyama (34 points, 14 rebounds and 6 assists) led San Antonio to a 116-96 victory over Sacramento, who had started the game well, leading 26-22 at the end of the first quarter. A poor three-pointer since the start of the season, the Frenchman seems to have rediscovered his sensations from afar with his six successful jump shots against the Kings, an NBA career record. Chris Paul’s rise to prominence was also noteworthy, with 12 points and 11 assists.
Beaten at home by Golden State on Sunday, with Chet Holmgren suffering a hip fracture, Oklahoma City bounced back on Monday with a 134-128 win over the Los Angeles Clippers. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 45 points for the Thunder, ably assisted by Jalen Williams (28 pts) and Luguentz Dort (19 pts).
