In 2023, 3,316 people died in more than 87,172 accidents, according to the Ministry of Transport. The authorities’ efforts have nevertheless reduced the mortality rate from traffic accidents from 14 per 100,000 inhabitants in 2019, to 9.5 per 100,000 in 2023. This compares with 4.6 per 100,000 inhabitants in 2022 in the European Union.
