The creator of “Norbert et Kari” and “Martin Milan”died at his home in Paris at the age of 92.
French comic strip artist and author Christian Godardcreator of Norbert and Kari and Martin Milandied at his Paris home at the age of 92, his family announced on Monday November 11 in a message on his website. “He had been courageously battling cancer for more than a year, and he has fallen asleep forever, at his home in Paris, close to his loved ones.”they added.
Born in Paris on March 24 1932, Christian Godard began his career in the early 50s under the pseudonym Ème in illustrated periodicals such as Coq hardi, before publishing under his own name. “in all children’s magazines”.from Pilot à Pif Mag via Tintin and Spirou , “from the 1960s to the present dayreminds us of its website.
Over 230 albums to his credit
Draftsman for René Goscinny (for Lili Mannequin, Jacquot the Moss…) for a dozen years, he met with success with Norbert and Karia series launched in 1963 in Pilote, in which he explores the friendship between a Polynesian and a Parisian who have decided to flee the capital. He followed this up with Martin Milanhis other most personal series, about the adventures of an altruistic airplane-taxi pilot, launched in 1967 in Tintin.
As a scriptwriter, Christian Godard has also penned The Mad Jungle with French cartoonist Mic Delinx. Then, in the 1970s, Le vagabond des limbesa science-fiction series illustrated by Spaniard Julio Ribera, with whom he set up a publishing house in 1988, The Silver Vesselclosed in 1991. With over 230 albums to his credit, this multi-talented author has also written novels, plays, sketches and TV scripts.
He will be laid to rest at 3pm on Thursday, in the Saint-Ouen cemetery.
