The Memphis star was injured on Wednesday during a win over the Los Angeles Lakers.
Memphis Grizzlies point guard Ja Morant has been placed on the indefinite unavailable list with a right hip injury, his club announced Saturday. The 25-year-old two-time All-Star was injured during Wednesday’s 131-114 home win over the Los Angeles Lakers, when he tried to catch a high ball in the third quarter and was bumped in the air by another player, then landed heavily on the floor.
An MRI scan showed that Morant was suffering from a posterior hip subluxation without dislocation, with the joint spreading apart but the bones still touching. He also suffered multiple associated grade 1 (mild) pelvic muscle strains, according to his NBA franchise.
Morant is averaging 20.6 points, 9.1 assists and 5.0 rebounds per game this season for the Grizzlies, who are sixth in the Western Conference after six wins in ten games. He played just nine games last season, receiving a 25-game suspension at the start of the season after brandishing a firearm during a video broadcast on social networks, before undergoing season-ending surgery on his right shoulder last January.
