The Swallow Theatre
Using the expertise of internationally acclaimed award winning writer Des Dillon, this one day writing workshop will encourage the development of writing skills and various applications of the written word.
Des Dillon was born in Coatbridge and studied English Literature. He is an English teacher and was writer-in-Residence at Castlemilk 1998-2000. Poet, short story writer, novelist, dramatist, broadcaster, screen writer, scriptwriter for TV, stage and radio – Des has experience across a huge range of writing genres. He is published in USA, India, Russia, Sweden, in Catalan, French, and Spanish. His novel Me and Ma Gal was included on the list of The 100 Best Scottish Books of all time. Anthologised internationally. His latest award was The Lion and Unicorn prize for the best of Irish and British literature in the Russian language (2007).
The timetable for the day is anticipated to be as follows:-
10.00 – Coffee and tea on arrival for a 10.30 start
10.30 – Different pathways – different approaches. An introduction from Des on approaches to writing poetry, plays, prose.
11.15 – Exercises to stimulate ideas for individual writing of poetry/prose/drama/etc
12.30 – Lunch
1.15 – Time for delegates to work on their own projects, with occasional guidance from Des (tea and coffee available)
3.15 – Plenary session for feedback and discussion
4.00 – Finish
